Impromptu adventuring, exploring our backyard and then putting pen to paper, hoping to entice you to try one, if not all, of our escapades, is my true reward!

Enjoy The Busy-ness Of the World of Students

When we lived in Brisbane this was always one of my favourite cafes, positioned in Hawken Drive, St Lucia, within walking distance of the University of Queensland. Always abuzz with uni students and lecturers using it as a meeting place or trying to finish off that last assignment, it was a vibrant place to sit back and enjoy the busy-ness of the world of students.
On a recent mid-week trip to Brisbane we decided to pop in for lunch. I was a tad disappointed to find that the management had very recently changed but decided 'what the heck', it's still in the same great location, the decor looks similar, why not give it a try.

The new management appeared to be more student-age, which is a good thing perhaps, knowing what your peers are into etc. There were the students were still lounging around, with open laptops, sipping on a coffee, but a new generation, one of retirees, seemed to have surfaced as well. I think as we get older, we either avoid the noisiness of the younger generation, or we embrace their energy and I think the latter is the reason for the new influx of mature patrons.
The choice of menu was still extensive with a diversity of items including a display cabinet with delectable sweet options. Our orders were taken promptly and with the choice of either indoor or outdoor seating, selected to sit outdoors to enjoy the warmth of a spring day in Brisbane.

Hubby ordered the Steak Sandwich, which arrived nicely presented on a wooden platter, with a side of very crispy, more-ish chips (why is it that deep-fried chips, irrespective of the unhealthy manner of cooking them, are always so addictive?) "Just one for me to taste" always tends to blow out of all proportion. Verdict for Steak Sandwich:- 'delicious, good quality steak'.

Our orders were prompt, the service was extremely friendly and yes, even though the management at W1 Brick and Bean Cafe has changed, I think is still a worthwhile spot to stop off at, enjoy a meal and surround yourself with the positive energies emitted by the world of students.
PS The W1 Brick and Bean Cafe don't have a website but definitely have a Facebook page and are open every day from 7.00am to 3.00pm
