Bribie Island Beaches

Bribie Island offers so much for locals and tourists alike. Surf beaches, golf courses and the quiet waters of the Pumicestone passage. But our adventure took us down on to the beach with our Four Wheel Drives. Once you cross over the bridge on to Bribie Island you follow the signs to Woorim along first Ave. The signs will point you in the direction of the beach access. But before you head there you will need a
beach permit for your vehicle.
There is parking at the entry point for those that do not have a 4WD. The track to the beach is about 1km, and an off road vehicle is necessary. Check the tide times before heading down, as there isn't much beach left when the tide is up. Once on the beach you can travel about 20km north before you are instructed to stop, with no further access allowed. This point is prominent as it has an old gun turret as its marker.
The drive to this point is fantastic, passing some small tidal lakes, which are great to stop at and have a swim and a bite to eat.
There are maps available for the island that can be
downloaded or picked up on the island. Camping is permitted with a permit. Fishing is great here, and shell collecting along the water's edge after a storm can be rewarding. There are some short walking tracks off the beach, and one that will take you to the ruins of Fort Bribie. Not much to see but a nice walk.
South East Queensland has a treasure trove of adventures and sights. As Brisbanite's, we really don't have to go far for adventure. Visit it. It's fantastic.
