Grab a cold one that's made on premises or make your own
You wouldn't know it to look at it but in an industrial looking building in Woolloongabba is one of Brisbane's most exciting businesses, a microbrewery and learning space for new brewers.
With its unassuming facade, you would be mistaken for thinking Brews Brothers was just another older style bar with its pool tables, pinball machine and street-art-covered walls. However, the friendly staff will happily give you the 'one minute tour' of the brewing kegs, cool room and washing station where you can lay down your own brew and they will take care of the rest to make sure it's a perfect batch.
You can purchase beers to have with mates just like any other pub, but these come from the venues unique own brews and are served in second-hand bottles which still carry the hallmarks of its original brand name beer. You can also order takeaways from this range of bottles with options such as Cream Ale, Hop Head Ale and Little Critter harking from the names of mainstream beers they are modelled after.
Upstairs is a pretty unique space with the faint smell of cigarettes of parties long ago but with that low light, grunge-vibe of an indie bar. There is a pool table and lots of seating for you to drink a few microbrews and hang out with your mates. The walls are covered in graffiti art which makes you feel a little like you're under a bridge or in a back alley but with all the comforts of being indoors.
There is brewing equipment to buy here too with a range of bottle trees, cappers and other elements needed for doing it yourself in the comfort of your own home. We are definitely keen for another visit to lay down a batch and have all the hard work done for us. You just need to bring your own bottles at the end of the cycle to take it home with you.
