Global sports brand, PUMA has joined forces with key partner, Foot Locker, to take over Pitt Street Mall during the September school holidays in celebration of the first women's signature basketball shoe in over a decade - the Stewie 1 - with twice Olympic gold medallist and WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart.
"Working with PUMA to craft the first women's signature basketball sneaker in the last 12 years was an honour," said Breanna Stewart. "I hope that this is the first in a legacy of signature sneakers to come for women athletes across all sports and serve as inspiration for all young people that this, along with any achievement, is possible."
From 24 - 27 September, Foot Locker and PUMA will take over Pitt Street Mall and host an outdoor activation to celebrate the Stewie 1 and the broader PUMA Hoops portfolio at Foot Locker.
All are welcome to come down to Foot Locker Pitt street and take part in all the FREE on-court action from 1 pm to 6 pm! Over 4 days, try your hand in a 3-ball shoot to win a variety of prizes including the Stewie 1 itself, a year's supply of PUMA Hoops products, PUMA x Foot Locker vouchers and an exclusive poster designed by renowned Australian artist Tyson Beck!
PLUS on Sunday 25 September from 1 pm to 3 pm, Breanna Stewart will make a special appearance and take part in a Q&A session with sports presenter Megan Hustwaite. She will also meet fans for photo opportunities and signings.
Stewie's signature sneaker is the latest in PUMA's commitment to growing equality for women athletes. In launching the Stewie 1, Breanna is taking the next step in inspiring a generation of young athletes to believe that a signature shoe is a possibility, no matter who you are or where you are from.
"A signature sneaker for Breanna was long overdue, and we are thrilled to launch the Stewie 1 with Foot Locker while Breanna is in Australia for the FIBA Women's World Cup" says Daniel 'Pancho' Gutstein, General Manager PUMA Oceania."Equal representation in sport is something PUMA is fiercely committed to, and we look forward to seeing athletes of all ages, backgrounds and genders wearing the Stewie 1 as a reminder of how important progress like this is."
With the Stewie 1, the PUMA Hoops Collection at Foot Locker grows - joining the likes of LaMelo Ball's MB.01, the TRC Blaze Court, Rise Nitro and Court Rider franchises.
"Elevating the culture of basketball for all ages and genders is a mission for Foot Locker." said Natalie Ellis, Vice President and General Manager, Foot Locker Asia Pacific. "It is exciting to celebrate this special moment for Breanna Stewart and PUMA in line with the FIBA Women's World Cup in Sydney.
We are passionate about bringing further awareness to collaborative partnerships between women athletes and brands and look forward to bringing to life a compelling experience in Pitt St Mall that celebrates Breanna's official signature sneaker and a love for the game."
Breanna Stewart, the Seattle Storm power forward, has been one of the WNBA's most stand-out superstars since she first appeared in 2016. In just six years, Stewart has achieved more WNBA accolades than many have achieved throughout their entire career and was the perfect choice for the collaboration to recognise female athletes in a heavily male-dominated arena.
About the Stewie 1
The first shoe of its kind to be launched in over 10 years in women's professional basketball. The performance-packed kick embodies Stewart's fierce-yet-humble nature on and off the court with its Quiet Fire colourway - a striking combination of neon yellow and contrasting black. An understated tonal flame pattern represents this duality, while a North Star-inspired upper captures the forward's brilliant talent. Coordinating apparel, featuring retro references and modern takes on classic b-ball cuts, ensures unmatched style.
