Breakwater Park

It's a funny little dead-end spot beside the Wynnum Creek, which is quite busy with walkers who pound in on their regular walks from the Manly end of the esplanade. When they reach the creek, they do a u-turn and return to their starting point.
It can be quiet, but there's a lot going on here. There's a sandy beach, and at high tide, water to safely paddle in the shallow water. Brave folk can walk along the breakwater, carefully so that they don't fall into the water. Some folk sit on the breakwater and cast a line or two in.
Photographers often visit the site to take advantage of the scenery and birds, and perhaps a boat or two as they leave the boat ramp on the other side of the creek or from further up the creek. Or you can watch the pelicans line up – always hanging around to feed on the waste from the fisherfolk. At low tide, many sit on the wall or the water, waiting for the feed.
There's a BBQ there, and covered tables and seating, so it is a great place for a quiet family feed. It's all BYO It's not a good place for littlies, as there are a few safety issues, but for older children, there's walking, playing on the lawn or the sandy beach.
The big trees provide plenty of shade and there's room to sit on a camping seat and enjoy the views and fresh sea air. It is also a place where you can learn a little history of the children who were brought to Wynnum – the stolen generation. There's information about the various places they were housed way back in the 1900s on a board near a huge stone with a brass plate of information. Some early Wynnum history of sad times.
