In what was supposed to be their 30th Birthday celebratory year, Brisbane Symphony Orchestra are fighting back from their cancelled 2020 season, with an end of year concert entitled "Breaking the Silence". Presenting a selection of works they were hoping to play in their concerts this year, along with some popular classics, the orchestra will take to the stage in Brisbane's iconic City Hall at 6.30pm on Saturday 21st November.

The orchestra will "break the silence" with the brass fanfare from "La Peri", a fitting opener. The music will continue with the opening movement from Beethoven's Pastorale Symphony which the orchestra had hoped to perform for the worldwide Pastoral Project as well as celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's Birth.

Another popular work on the program will be the opening movement of Mozart's Symphony no.25, which was made famous by its use for the opening titles of the 1984 film Amadeus. This inclusion of Mozart in the program represents some of the work which the orchestra completed once they were able to return to rehearsals, playing through Mozart's symphonies.

The orchestra are also excited to include in the program, two emerging young singers, tenor Kang Wang who has already performed with the Metropolitan Opera and who was a grand finalist in the 2017 Cardiff Singer of the World competition, along with mezzo-soprano Sarah Winn, who is about to start her Master of performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester as the winner of two major singing awards.

The concert will also present favourites such as Brahms Hungarian Dance no.5, selections from the Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and finish with a rousing rendition of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March - in lieu of the usual singing of "Land and Hope and Glory", audience members will be invited to hum along instead - it should be very moving.

Hosted by Gary Thorpe from 4MBS, the concert will take place with socially distanced seating in Brisbane's City Hall. Tickets must be booked through Ticket Tailor in order to comply with Covid regulations and audience members are asked not to move around the hall once they are in their seats. Seating is in groups of 1, 2, 3, 4 people to allow members to sit in family groups. There are a range of ticketing options depending on where you sit:
Balcony is $60 adults, $50 concessions, kids 12 and under $35
Stalls: $55 adults, $45 concessions, kids 12 and under $30.

There will be no interval and the concert should run from 6.30pm - 7:45pm, allowing time to head off to a local restaurant for dinner.
