[SECTION]Throw a Breaking Bad Themed Party[/SECTION]

Learn how to throw a party that even Walter White wouldn't mind being surprised with. AMC's Breaking Bad has emerged as one of the must see shows of the past decade. Every episode, every season, manages to outdo the one that preceded it. Now's the time to channel those fantastic characters and edge-of-your-seat story lines into your very own themed Breaking Bad party.

[SECTION]GET THE GUESTS IN THE MOOD[/SECTION]
It's all in the invite. Let them know this is a costume party and anyone who shows up not so is just plain lame. Dig up some images of the show and even though together a few cheap costume options for those mates you know are limited in the funds department. Let them know you're going all out on the night and hopefully they'll make the effort. If you like, just tell them what Walter did to Gus Fring will be nothing compared to what you'll do to them if they don't show up in costume... jokingly, of course.

[SECTION]SETTING UP[/SECTION]
Dedicate at least one part of your house to the AMC hit – I recommend the kitchen. It's perfect for "cooking" – if you know what I mean. To find the lab equipment necessary to recreate Walk and Jesse's laboratory you're best to hit up eBay or a local OP shop. Plan ahead. If you're going to be ordering online you're going to need the time to make sure everything arrives OK. Grab some kitchen scales as well just to make it a little bit more authentic.

To emulate Walt's AKA Heisenberg's signature blue meth I've got the simple solution – either buy some or make it yourself. OK, not literally, but there are some cheeky ways around it. Some variations of cat litter, I've found from the supermarkets, are a light blue colour. Put some in some bowls, in some of your science equipment and better yet, in little sandwich bags as if you're ready to sell it there and then.

If you feel like a bit of cooking (for real) – how about making some hard candy and colouring it blue ? Once you smash it up into little pieces you'll mistake it for Walt's own batch. I tried this myself but unfortunately it ended up like Flubber - hopefully you have better luck than I did.

[SECTION]COSTUMES[/SECTION]
Dressing up wise there are a few creative options available to you. If you're game enough why not go as Walter White from the front cover of the Breaking Bad Complete.jpg season 1 DVD set ? A friend of mine did this at our party and it was hilarious, but a bit cold he said. Another great option is to dress up in a jumpsuit similar to the one Jesse and Walt wear when they're cooking. Your local hardware store may have something similar – we picked up a cheap, thinned fabric white one for just $4. Possibly the cheapest costume I've ever worn to a party.

[SECTION]THE FOOD[/SECTION]
Some nibbles, cheese and biscuits never go astray – but to really make an impact and stay true to the night you might want to consider ordering out. We went to the effort of spending about $40 on some KFC for our guests, all so we could emulate Albuquerque's favorite fictional chicken joint by placing stickers like these over the KFC label. It's one of the finer details and one I'd only recommend if you've got the extra cash. Hardcore fans of the show will appreciate the effort though. If you're really dedicated and know how to cook, perhaps you could look into making some Breaking Bad inspired cupcakes from this recipe I found online.

[SECTION]THE NIGHT[/SECTION]
Here it is – the night of your big party. Always be your character – it makes it that much more fun. Maybe a few jokeful threats to your mates or even the offer of cat litter meth. I'd recommend putting on a DVD or two of the show in the background, could be a good talking point for some friends who have never seen the show. If you're really keen turn it up for everyone to play and have a go at this Breaking Bad-themed drinking game .

May the best man/woman win.

Well there you have it - my crash course to throwing a Breaking Bad inspired party. If you've got anything to add or take my advice and throw your own party, please let me know in the comment below. Make Walter proud.
