From 7am every morning residents of Coburg and surrounds are drawn to the relaxed, open atmosphere and delicious coffee at the Post Office Hotel Cafe. The Post Office Hotel, or "The POH" to locals, is a recently renovated conglomerate of bar, cafe, bottle shop, pizza takeaway, dining hall and live music venue. Cleverly divided, the huge space loses no charm for being such a mass, and each area has the just the right amount of atmosphere and intimacy.
The cafe area, where I've enjoyed breakfast on a few occasions, is clean and bright with plenty of seating, decent prices and family-friendly menu options. The fruit toast ($6.50) is ah-mazing, and if the kiddies don't fancy the delicious regular options they can get an egg and toast soldiers, a toastie or even a bowl of coco pops. I choose two poached eggs on thick white toast and it arrives quickly, simple but delicious. The waiters are friendly and natural, which suits the relaxed atmosphere.

If you're late to wake you can also choose from their pizza menu, which is available from 11am and includes delicious options such as roast pear, mozzarella, gorgonzola, grana, scamorza & rosemary, and tomato sugo, prosciutto, mushrooms, spinach & boccocini.
Fresh juice options are unfortunately limited, but there is the usual array of coffees for a morning wake-up, as well as iced drinks, organic lemonade, and herbal tea.
Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch, Dinner and take-away menus are available for download from their website.
This is a great place to bring the whole family, or sit and relax with the paper in a solo Sunday brunch. While you're there, check out the bar and restaurant areas, and maybe come back later for the dessert menu - blood orange semifreddo, pomegranate molasses, apple & blood orange jelly... yum!
