If I have a passion for anything - it's food involving bacon you can eat at breakfast time with your hands. I'm about to divulge the best places you can find this kind of joy, and I'm trusting you not to tell too many people and ruin it for all of us.
Bebida is a Spanish, or maybe Mexican themed cafe - actually, maybe it's not themed at all. I'll be honest, every time I've been there I think I've still been a little tipsy from the night before. I'm not sure if it's this influence which has made every one of my experiences with their BLT Sandwich a near divine one. On their menu, the cafe has actually named the sandwich "Gotta Have The BLT", and I couldn't agree more with the sentiment. At one point, me and my friends were there every other morning trying to figure out exactly what it was that made this BLT so obviously infinitely better than any other BLT we'd ever tasted. We never figured it out - but really, at $10.50 who cares?
Pope Joan exceeds most other breakfast joints in almost every area (um - crab and coriander omelet, anyone?), and their egg and bacon roll is no exception. They use this really puffy bread that is a little bit toasted on the outside, but somehow super-soft where it meets the egg and bacon and home-made (!) HP sauce inside. The best experience I've had of this roll was when I was having breakfast with a friend and they ordered a meal which came with tomato relish. I ended up stealing a good portion of that relish for my roll, and let me tell you - it rocked. So if you want to get the most out of this one, go with a friend and make them order something with tomato relish.
Okay. I cannot even. The egg and bacon roll here is pretty much beyond anything you will ever taste in your life. If I had a nickel for every person I had brought to Atomica who had cruelly mocked my over-enthusiasm for this sandwich before tasting it and realising it is everything that was missing in their life: I would have a lot of useless foreign currency. I'm not sure if it's the perfection to which they fry the egg - so the yolk is runny and amazing, but still somehow manages to stay (mostly) in the sandwich, or how they leave just the right amount of fat on the bacon, or the insane relish. Yeah, actually, it's probably the relish.
