Lexie's on the Beach is a popular café located right on
Stockton Beach, on the opposite side of the Hunter River from Newcastle CBD. It is easily accessible from the
Stockton Ferry which leaves from Queen's Wharf in Newcastle and also for the locals of Stockton, who enjoy having this friendly café right on their beachfront. It is also located right next door to the
NRMA Stockton Beach Holiday Park, which means that tourists to the area also get to experience this colourful, friendly café.
When you first see Lexie's, it stands out with its bright lime green facade, which contrasts starkly against the yellow sand and wide blue sky behind. There are casual tables outside near the walkway to the beachfront, as well as a large indoor area with roll-down plastic screens, which gives protection from the wind in the cooler months. Our family visited Lexie's on a cool spring morning, after staying the night at the holiday park next door. We walked from our cabin to the café and within minutes and were greeted like old friends...

If you have kids, they will enjoy the crayons and colouring-in on offer, as well as seeing completed pictures from other kids stuck up on the wall. Our daughter was fascinated by the ceiling of the café, which had a large fishing net draping down and starfish artistically dotted throughout the net. Also check out the Kids Meals on the
menu, for a wide range of tasty options that are sure to please.
On our visit, we went up to the counter and ordered some hot coffees, a Bacon and Egg Roll ($10), Toasted Sourdough ($12) and our daughter felt like fruit toast ($7) and orange juice. After walking along the beach and looking for shells, we were particularly hungry - so when the meals came out the size of the meals satisfied our eyes -
and our stomachs!

A colourful breakfast at Lexie's...

Sourdough Toastie from the All Day Menu - smoked ham, cheese, tomato, Spanish onion, rocket and tomato relish on sourdough bread ($12).
Lexie's on the Beach is a popular place for coffee, breakfast and lunch each day, however, they also have an ice-cream window in the warmer months - which is a "must" for any summer beach visit. Their talented chefs also host multicultural themed nights throughout the year, such as American Night, Italian Night or Mexican Night - with 3 courses, BYO wine and live music. See the Lexie's
Facebook for the next event.

The suburb of Stockton is an interesting place to explore if you are visiting for the day or staying at the holiday park. The suburb itself has a depth of history with convict stories, shipwrecks and early settlers camping on the banks of the Hunter River. You can learn more about the history on the
Shipwreck Walk, just a short walk from Lexie's on the Beach. The café is also located right on the 32 kilometre Stockton Beach, which has sand dunes that roll on for miles and popular fishing spots, for locals and tourists alike.
If you are looking for a relaxed beach vibe, outstanding coffee, delicious food and a relaxing escape from the city - then why not take the ferry or drive to Lexie's on the Beach? It is guaranteed to make you unwind and relax, in this picturesque part of the Newcastle coastline.
