This amazing shop in Coventry Village has been open since August 2017 and Breadtop is a franchise who make premium quality, "baked on the premises" goods. Their products suit Asian as well as local and European tastes. The franchise started in Victoria in 2002, and now have about 71 stores throughout Australia, and 3 in Perth.

Breadtop Morley is shop number 41, situated opposite the Spud Shed (the Walter Road end), and they are open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm seven days a week.

I stumbled upon this "treasure" by pure accident one day while I was wandering through Coventry Village looking for another shop, and was thrilled at the large range of different filled breads/buns that they make.

All are on display behind glass and you can also view many of them from the outside of the shop.

The idea is that you take a tray, put your items directly onto this tray, and when you have finished selecting, you take the tray to the counter to be priced and wrapped.

It is a tiny shop, and is a takeaway only, having no seating, however, it has very different types of products to an ordinary bakery.

There are all manner of rolls in all sizes, shapes and fillings - there are sweet and savoury, with many of the sweet ones I have tasted being not sickly sweet like some pastries/breads are.

My favourite is the naan bread which is filled with cheese, white onions and is eaten cold.

This looks somewhat "uninteresting" and it was the first one I picked when I originally found this shop, however, I was rather surprised at how scrumptious this was. It is a very large serving and at $3.60 is excellent value, as are the majority of Breadtop Morley products.

Emily was serving the second time that we went here and she was both friendly and helpful, cheerfully explaining some of our queries about the fillings in a few of the rolls.

They sell both sweet and savoury items and have such items as:

  • Sausage filled bun
  • Cheese bun
  • Savoury chicken bun
  • Mini burgers
  • Chicken mushroom doughnut
  • Parmesan cheese and garlic bread
  • Donuts, plain and filled
  • Tuna bun
  • Pork floss bun
  • Pastry
  • Cakes
  • And much more

  • My friend chose the BBQ Bacon roll which cost $3.70 and we shared both items.

We then followed this with a sesame ball and I expected these to be filled and very sweet, however, they were not at all sweet as is often the case with Asian desserts/pastries.

At just $1.30 each, this was also very reasonable.

We followed this with an egg tart each, and these were also available boxed with five in a display box.

Asian egg tarts, although considered a dessert or sweet, are never very sweet, and this one was no exception, with tasty pastry, and costing $4.20 each.

It is difficult to make a decision here, as there is just so much to choose from, and they also sell loaves of bread, and the most delightful looking shaggy "puppy cakes"!

They have a fridge section which also has some unusual things in it, including sweet cakes which looked unusual, and oh, so tempting.

All in all, although I have been here now three times, it is a place that I'm sure I will go back to when I want a fast, tasty and cheap lunch or snack with coffee.
