Las Favelas is one of the latest restaurants to emerge in Gladesville. Only been operating for six weeks, Las Favelas is a Brazilian restaurant that has taken over from the Gladesville Hotel on Victoria Road.

They offer a buffet meat selection but the buffet comes to you. It means that you can eat as much as you like as the Churrasqueiros (meat carvers) move from table to table slicing meat from the large metal skewers - lots of meat. This serving style is known as rodizio.

As we made our way up the stairs from the carpark at the back of the restaurant, the friendly waitress showed us our table. While we waited for our drinks, we absorbed the decor of this restaurant. It is barely decorated. There are few South American ornaments to ponder and there is a lack of colour in this restaurant. Many of the tables and chairs, though in good condition, looked like they belonged to the era of the former hotel. The bar, though, was a standout. It was modern and airy and the large mirror brought depth to this area of the restaurant.

There were a few people this night who had discount coupons including us - two adults, two teens, many of us keen to try traditional Brazilian food. Our meal began with cheese balls and garlic bread rolls. These were very tasty and a fine start to our evening dishes.

We were then served fried banana. I normally don't like warmed or fried fruit but the frying brought out a lovely sweet, delicious flavour. I was surprised how tasty this treat was.

Then began the first of many meat dishes sliced at our table. We were each supplied with a pair of small tongs to grasp the meat as it was sliced down the skewer.

We all agreed that the lamb rump was flavoursome. Next was the leg of lamb, simply delish. Then a large tasting plate arrived with three dishes which surrounded a large bowl of chillies. These were a delightful addition.

Chicken wrapped in bacon arrived soon after. Smiles all round. Pork belly arrived, then beef on a skewer, chicken thigh, chorizo. With each skewer, we laughed in glee as there was so much meat arriving, all mouth-watering. After many rounds of digging greedily into the meats, we needed to call a halt to this degustation. Water was available at each table, soft drink was included in the cost.

To finish our meal, pineapple arrived to freshen our palate after a magnificent deluge of meat. The roasted pineapple had a wonderful aroma of cinnamon and it was just sensational.
Normally this churrasco would be $49 per person. With the coupons, it was $89 for four people.

If you're after a serious romantic dinner, this is not the place. But if you're after a dinner with friends or family and just want fun and good conversation, then this is a great place. Food was fabulous, service was impeccable. Just the interior of this restaurant needs improvement.
