Gender used to be and still is very much an obstacle, especially if you belong to the female category. This documentary depicts the Women's Liberation Movement in Australia, of which the first ruffles were felt in Brisbane in 1965.

The footage has been taken from the archives of the ABC and Catherine Dwyer, the director, has chosen what she wanted to be shown in the film with absolute perfection.

It also gives a shout-out to non-white feminists, who we see interviews of in the documentary, telling us that they will never be where their white counterparts are because of other things at play, such as race and the patriarchal societies they live in.

I just wanted it to be longer, but as explained in the Q & A after, there were budget constraints. This was an ambitious project, and it does impress by delving into the annals of contemporary Australian women's history.

Truly an eye-opener.
