Braybrook may be an easily overlooked suburb because it's squished in between the better-known areas of Footscray and Sunshine, but the addition of new cafes is offering it greater exposure. Braybrook STN opened in December last year and is situated within Central West Shopping Centre. The team behind this cafe is none other than Workshop Bros, who are dedicated to 'great food, amazing coffee and exceptional service' (according to their website), so you can expect a similar standard here.
The store features a mostly minimal, green and white theme. Large, open windows introduce plenty of warm sunlight, making the space very open and inviting. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, or if you're just in for a coffee refuel, take a seat at the communal table where you can have a quick scan through of the daily newspaper.
The menu is subject to seasonal change but you can usually expect a good variety of breakfast/brunch staples and more inspired options like slow cooked beef cheeks, Japanese chicken katsu sandwich or 'magic truffle mushrooms'. My favourite dish so far is the corn fritters. It's a great example of a classic dish done right because all the components harmonised well together without a single ingredient overpowering the palate!
My favourite corn fritters! The flavours were exceptionally well balanced
Expect to pay about $25 for a dish and coffee, but don't forget about the selection of dessert options by the counter. There's usually items like cake slices and pastries that are often hard to pass by as you're paying for your food.
