Charming Seaside Cafe
Outside Bramble Place
Bramble Place Tea and Coffee House in located in Sandgate - a coastal suburb in Brisbane, 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) north of the CBD.
The history of the site
The site where Bramble Place Tea and Coffee resides dates back to 1924. In past lives, it has been a bank, Real Estate office and even a dental surgery. Fast forward to 2014 and Bramble Place Tea and Coffee opened as a café by owners Piia and Margus Hanikat, who bring their Nordic flair to this quaint and charming little eatery. The corner shop has stayed true to its history, painted in heritage colours of creamy yellow, racing car green and deep maroon and retained its VJ interior walls.

What's on the menu? Bramble Place serves Botanica organic fair trade coffee made on Maleny Dairies milk. My chai latte ($4.00) was delicious and arrived promptly and with a smile. Glancing through the menu, I find that breakfast and lunch are covered. Two stand out breakfast items were the spiced Avocado crush, whipped Feta and Smoked Salmon on toast with a slice of lemon (GF available) $ 18.50 and the Beef and Haloumi croquettes served with tomato crush and in-house made hollandaise sauce and two poached eggs GF $18.50. As for lunch the lamb, root vegetables, potato and pumpkin pie $16.90 served with salad sounded impressive.
Where can I sit? Pooch and I sat outside on a 6 seater table under the shading of the café's corrugated iron awning (so very Queensland) and caught the passing gentle sea breeze. A friendly couple of local business operators asked to join us and share the table. They offered their happy experiences of living and working in the area. For them, it was the laid back lifestyle which makes Sandgate so appealing. Two other outdoor tables are available closer to the curb which are shaded by green Botanica umbrellas and get you closer to watch the village action.
The inside of the café has a series of quaint and quiet rooms which feel like your own private dining room. Bramble Place is available for private dinner functions serving 10-14 guests. So it's one to keep in mind if planning a birthday party, anniversary or family event. Afternoon teas can also be booked for a little bit of sweet and petite decadence.
What else? Bramble Place are keen and active supporters of local artists, regularly displaying and rotating original artworks in the café. It reinforces that community spirit. For the ease of your visit, the Sandgate Bus Station is simply steps away and street parking is available in Loudon Street, as well as designated parking areas in the Village.
