Nice rooms and excellent value for money
Motel accomodation alongside the roadhouse - Photo by Allan
The BP Terowie Roadhouse and Motel is located on the Barrier Hwy, about 40 km before Peterborough. When I stayed in January 2017 a double room was available from $66 per night. The price seems amazing, but for $66 you get all the basics: a decent room, double bed, air conditioning and quite nice bathroom.
The staff are friendly and serve meals in the roadhouse. A serve of chips is to be highly recommended. Their all-day breakfast deal of bacon & tomato comes with hash browns and toast and was enough to be shared between two.
I recommend taking your own cosmetics and a care package of your own food as Terowie is quite remote. This means if you are not satisfied by road-house fare, you have little choice. The township itself, which is fascinating to visit by turning west alongside the roadhouse, is a sort of ghost town. At one time, it boasted a thriving rail exchange, but the line changed, cutting out the gauge size that serviced Terowie. The population dropped overnight to an estimated 150.
Terowie forms a convenient stop-over and half-way point between Adelaide and Broken Hill. While it is very quiet, I enjoyed the isolation and fantastic view of the stars at night. RVs and caravans can park around the back.
