Melody Howlett tackles feminism and fragile masculinity with fine finesse in Boys
Swooping in to solve 2019's fragile masculinity crisis is Melody Howlett with her performance art-meets-comedy
Boys.
Held in the cosy confines of Hell's Kitchen in the Rhino Room,
Boys takes audiences on an educational journey through modern-day news stories and personal anecdotes, all of which stem from a society which has been deeply dictated by the patriarchy.
Describing herself as "an ultra-femme 5'5 dork in heels", Melody Howlett is a psychology and gender studies graduate with a passion for intersectional feminism, gender equality and healthy relationship education.
Howlett takes a head-on approach as she tackles a broad variety of taboo topics ranging from sexual assault, gender inequality and fragile masculinity, tying it all together with a sprinkling of droll humour and sarcasm.
Seemingly light and humorous comedic acts eventually reveal concerning statements and behaviour taken from real-life scenarios, provoking critical reflection and introspection amongst audience members.
Confronting one moment then chuckle-worthy the next, Melody Howlett's debut show
Boys is an all-inclusive performance in a genre of its own, proving to be a must-see for men, women and non-binary alike.
Although Melody Howlett's string of Fringe shows may be over, her wit and wisdom are available for hire as she also delivers her shows at high schools, universities and social groups.
