For something a bit more tame and tranquil, pack a picnic and load the family into the car and visit Cedar Creek north of Brisbane CBD. It is a great way too cool off in the clear waterfalls and rock pools past Samford Village. Head north along Mt Samson Road and turn into Cedar Creek Road. This is guaranteed for a fun and cheap fun day out for the whole family.
For a cheap family day out head into the city and visit Southbank Parklands for a well-deserved dip in the man-made beach. Beside the beach, there is a Free kids water park with picnic facilities to enjoy, large open green spaces for children to run around in and free playground equipment.

If you're heading into the city for Boxing Day to catch up with some friends and family and need something interesting to entertain the crew, check out the Wintergarden's Strike Ten Pin Bowling. Load the family into the car and visit Redcliffe for a day and take in the local history or the beachy local vibe.
