To start things off the Gold Coast has a number of ideas to keep even the most patient of people occupied while avoiding the shopping centres. The new addition to the Gold Coast's nightlife, The Pink Flamingo SpiegelClub situated in the heart of Broadbeach will be hosting a special Boxing Day show. Cue the glitter and stilettos as The Luxe White Ball event kicks off at 9pm in the brightly coloured pink venue. The specially catered Sauve Show features professional acrobats, dancers, singers and will feature Natasha St James, Brisbane's very own Courtney Act and Kitty Glitter to amp up your Boxing Day. If you're itching for something a bit more physical but don't want to go outdoors in the heat, Holey Moley's indoor putt-putt venues is the place to go. Holey Moley has reinvented putt-putt with its fun and interesting obstacles that everyone will love or hate as they try to manoeuvre their golf ball through the obstacles. Holey Moley has a relaxed vibe with plenty of entertainment fun for everyone, including a photo booth, karaoke, drinks and bar snacks. For something a bit more tame and tranquil, pack a picnic and load the family into the car and visit Cedar Creek north of Brisbane CBD. It is a great way too cool off in the clear waterfalls and rock pools past Samford Village. Head north along Mt Samson Road and turn into Cedar Creek Road. This is guaranteed for a fun and cheap fun day out for the whole family.

For a cheap family day out head into the city and visit Southbank Parklands for a well-deserved dip in the man-made beach. Beside the beach, there is a Free kids water park with picnic facilities to enjoy, large open green spaces for children to run around in and free playground equipment.

If you're heading into the city for Boxing Day to catch up with some friends and family and need something interesting to entertain the crew, check out the Wintergarden's Strike Ten Pin Bowling. Strike Ten Pin is open from 10am on Boxing Day till late and has twelve bowling lanes, karaoke, pool tables, laser tag arena and escape rooms to explore. For further information visit

Load the family into the car and visit Redcliffe for a day and take in the local history or the beachy local vibe. For families, Redcliffe is the perfect place to day trip too with plenty of local beaches to choose from, such as beautiful Sutton's Beach along with Settlement Cove Lagoon/ Redcliffe Lagoon. The Lagoon is a haven for the younger family members with patrolling lifeguards on hand to assist even the most energetic cherubs. For a bit of local history, check out Bee Gees Way off Redcliffe Parade. This recent addition tracks the history of the famous band that grew up in Redcliffe. The historic laneway has photos and a life-size bronze statue of the group to marvel at and is a great place to take a selfie or two for Facebook.

For something a bit more unique Eco Noosa River Adventures has a variety of water activities available for the whole family. This summer Eco Noosa River Adventures offers a self-guided water bike tour of the Noosa River. This strange contraption allows visitors to view the natural wildlife of the water and land in an environmentally sustainable way. The Nauticycle bike tour allows everyone of all ages to enjoy the silence of nature and observe the beauty of nature. The bike tour goes past the Noosa precinct, into the national parks and ends at a secluded beach to enjoy.
