The Official Opening is on Friday 25 August at 8pm. You can get a head start to pick and choose and purchase some wonderful original artwork ahead of everyone else. It might also be the best time ever to get there, the attraction being less traffic and parking issues. The exhibition continues to run, following the official opening, on the Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm.
The Box Hill Art Group is a community painting and drawing group open to anyone over 16. It began in 1952 making it one of the oldest such groups in suburban Melbourne. they meet at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre, 470 Station Street, Box Hill. For more information, check out their website, and for updates, their Facebook page is a great place to find it.
Find out more about their workshops (there's one on 7 Oct; how to combine pastel with other media workshop) and classes on drawing skills, all media, and watercolour. Expert tutors will show you how it's done, and expressing yourself through art can be therapeutic and good for the soul. It also combats social isolation meeting and making new friends. The Box Hill Art Group doesn't just stay put, the members also go places like their recent trip to the NGV International on the 6th of August just gone. Sounds like a wonderful group to belong to and have fun with, while you explore your artistic side and let it run free.
I went yesterday and enjoyed what I saw.
For those who know there is a wide stair case leading down to the exhibition please don't be put off by not coming especially if stairs are for you daunting or if you're wheel chair bound etc because there is a lift to the left as you arrive in through the main entrance. Press "B" for basement to arrive at the exhibition. Turn left and there's a door ahead on your left. Much easier than the stairs if youre limited with using stairs. You will enjoy the various artists works from emerging to professional like I did.
