The world mourned when David Bowie died in 2016. He was one of the world's best selling music artists and is sadly missed by his millions of fans and the music industry. In tribute to their Sorrow , Brisbane's Bowie themed charity event Bowies Down Brunswick returns to The Valley. You are invited to dress in the spirit of Bowie and help raise funds for Cancer Council on Saturday 10 November, for the 3rd annual Bowies Down Brunswick. Kristian Fletcher ("And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear"), the organiser, has run retro events in Brisbane for over 17 years and has presented David Bowie-themed events every November since 2009.
The evening of David Bowie events will start with the Bowies Down Brunswick charity walk, down Brunswick Street of course. The night ends at the recently refurbished Osbourne Hotel at 766 Ann Street, with a David Bowie Party.
Bowies Down Brunswick Charity Walk Fans will gather from 5.00 pm at Netherworld at 186 Brunswick Street in The Valley to participate in the Bowies Down Brunswick charity walk which kicks off at 6.00 pm. You are encouraged to dress as Bowie so start organising your outfits now. Stuck for a costume? Try a lightning bolt on your face like Aladin Sane, or you can be a little China Girl. Bowie reinvented himself often over the decades (both musically and visually). He had many Changes and was the Chameleon of rock. So there are plenty of eras and styles to choose from for dressing up. Will you be Ziggy Stardust or the Thin White Duke? Don't feel Under Pressure whether you are an Absolute Beginner or in your Golden Years or just a Space Oddity, you're sure to be Hunky Dory. An added incentive to dress up is that there will be a selection of free arcade games for all you Cosplayers. Bowie look-a-likes will make their way down Brunswick Street, stopping at various venues for Bowie music, photos, and Bowie-themed cocktails at Marquee Bar at 336 Brunswick Street, then detouring into Ann Street. A donation of minimum of a gold coin is requested which goes to the very worthwhile charity, Cancer Council, and will cover participation in the walk.
David Bowie Party Let's Dance. The walk will end upstairs at the Osbourne Hotel where guests will party in a private function room at the David Bowie Party from 7.00 pm to 10.30 pm. The Legend that is Bowie Singer-songwriter Bowie (David Robert Jones 1947-2016) is so iconic that he doesn't need another name, like Cher (incidentally, with whom he has sung). He rose to prominence in the late 1960s as one of the fathers of Glam Rock music. He successfully transitioned to funk, plastic soul, new romantic, pop and electronic music thus ensuring him a fan base crossing the generations. No wonder he is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Many people talk about Bowie being the soundtrack to their lives. His legacy and influence lives on. Let's Dance.
