Consisting of 6,560 acres (2,655 hectares) of protected area and located in the remarkable Sapphire Coast (Far South Coast) of New South Wales, is brimming with options to entice explorers of all ages and interests. Including secluded beaches, stunning coastal walks, birdwatching and wildlife spotting, water-based activities as well as camping opportunities, all making this National Park a best-kept secret!



is the perfect spot to escape the hustle and bustle of city life as well as getting away from the crowds. It is an approx 6 hour drive from Sydney, 3 hour drive from Canberra and 7 hour drive from Melbourne, making this point of interest the perfect weekend escape.



Discover secluded beaches and spectacular cliffs along the rugged coastline on the Kangarutha Walking Track or enjoy a range of outdoor activities and pitch up the tent at Hobart Beach for a wilderness experience. While the calm waters of Wallagoot Lake, make a great spot to cool off during the warmer months.



Scour the nearby coastline and Bondi Lake on the many short walking tracks, or head off to explore on your bike.



If water sports are more your thing, sailing or gentle paddling out the northern shores of Wallagoot Lake will certainly satisfy. If you are feeling adventurous launch the boat and indulge in some water-skiing on the glassy waters, throw in the line or simply enjoy a swim at the waterways.



Picnics can be enjoyed throughout the National Park at Bournda Lagoon, Turingal Head and Wallagoot Lake Picnic Area and Boat Ramp - all of these make a wonderful lunch stop.



Bournda Lagoon:

Bournda Lagoon is fed by Sandy Beach Creek and is separated from Bournda Beach by a small sand dune. It is the ideal spot within to enjoy a family-friendly outing of swimming, fishing, paddling and picnics. It can be accessed from the wide and shady track that slowly winds to the edge of the Lagoon from the carpark. The walk is easy and takes around 5 minutes. Click here for the website.



Turingal Head:

Nestled among the red gums and giant honey myrtle, Turingal Head Picnic Area offers a tranquil setting for a relaxing picnic near Wallagoot Lake and Wine Glass Bay.

There are many activities to enjoy at this Picnic Area including birdwatching, wildlife spotting, wander down to the wetlands, enjoy the 200m walk to Wine Glass Bay, take a refreshing swim or enjoy a peaceful afternoon of fishing.

Turingal Head Picnic Area is a gateway to the southern part of the Kangarutha Walking Track. Click here for the website.



Wallagoot Lake:

Wallagoot Lake Picnic Area is more than just a picnic spot, it is a playground for watersport enthusiasts and nature-lovers alike. You can enjoy sailing, paddling, fishing, swimming, snorkelling and birdwatching as well as picnics (of course).

This Picnic Area is located in the heart of and a picnic on the shores of the Lake is a must! The Lake is a unique aquatic environment and is home to a huge diversity of marine life, as well as being home to many birdlife including several species of waterfowl, threatened species like the Little Tern and Fairy Tern which nest on the foreshores. Walking trails and Lookouts can also be explored with the many walking trails across the National Park including:

North Tura Lookout, which is well placed above the heath- there is a short walk which leads down to a remote beach and the North Tura Beach Walk is a direct walk from the carpark and has a viewing platform to take in the spectacular scenery- the beach is not patrolled, but it is still a popular spot for surfers and swimmers.

There is also the North Tura Beach Loop which can be enjoyed here too and features a wonderful short (15mins) loop down from the carpark and onto North Tura Beach.



White Rock is a great short walk to some appropriately named white rocks, while Bournda Lagoon slowly winds down to the edge of the beautiful Lagoon and Bournda Beach is a ten minute walk from the carpark with the walk passing through shaded heath to climb over the dunes and onto the beach. The Bournda Lagoon Lookout is a short walk that showcases the beautiful Bournda Lagoon. At the halfway point of the walk, the lookout is above the lagoon, giving you breathtaking views across most of the lagoon and out to sea.



Wallagoot Gap is a spectacular gorge, cut into the rock by the ocean. The Gap is a popular swimming spot, but do note there are no lifeguard patrols. The walk to Wallagoot Gap is well signposted and well maintained.

Wallagoot Beach is a 30 minute short walk and offers views across Wallagoot Lake as well as the long Wallagoot and Bournda Beaches.

If you are after long walks or something more strenuous the Hobart Beach Loop, Bournda Lagoon to North Tura, Kianiny Bay to White Horse Bay Lookout, North Tura Carpark to Bournda Island, Bournda Lagoon Carpark to Bournda Island are some of the longer walks to enjoy at the National Park.



Without doubt, is certainly a nature playground packed with many nature-based activities and attractions and is a must add to your bucket list of road trips!



Accommodation Options:

There are around 66 campsites at Hobart Beach Campground located near the Bega end of the National Park. The Campground offers tent, camper trailer and caravan sites, and camping beside vehicles options with facilities including amenities block, picnic tables, barbecue facilities, carpark, showers and toilets.
