Ever have one of those days when you're just innocently running some errands when suddenly, you pass by a tempting display of desserts and pastries that make you stop in your tracks and contemplate whether you should or should not give in to your sudden craving for something sweet? I just did, at the newly opened Botz Cafe in The Myer Centre.
It's right smack in the middle of the Myer Centre, so passing by this cafe is unavoidable if you're heading into the shopping centre. And with displays like this, can you really blame me for wanting to satisfy my sweet-tooth?
Botz is a really tiny cafe - it's probably able to seat only a handful of people. It's not really meant as a place to sit down and chat the hours away. Instead, it's a convenient place for people to grab a quick bite and a coffee fix.
Botz has a range of sandwiches and quiches for those desiring a more savoury approach to lunch. They have a much bigger range of sweet treats, much to the delight of sweet-tooths, like me, all over.
Unfortunately, I am not a coffee drinker so I'm unable to comment on whether or not the coffee is something to tout about. I can however, tell you what I thought about the lemon tartlet and the chocolate bomb.
First off we have the lemon tartlet. It's probably been out for awhile because the middle part, where it's supposed to be smooth and soft, has become cracked and a little bit hard. I did not fall in love with it on the first bite. Nor the second. It was just a very average tart, and actually I'd rate it a little below average based on its not-so-fresh condition. The lemon-y taste just wasn't enough and the flavour came out bland.
The chocolate bomb has such an impressive name and description. It consists of layers of dark, milk and white chocolate on a chocolate-sponge base. It really does paint a pretty picture for your tastebuds. This was much better than the lemon tartlet but once again, the flavours weren't strong enough for me to appreciate. I did like the soft consistency of the sponge base but the chocolate layers weren't all that great.
Botz is a cafe with very average desserts. I can't comment on how their savoury food or drinks taste, but I can say I did not particularly enjoy their desserts. I guess one of the selling points of Botz is its location; the centre of the ground level of the Myer Centre is an attractive place to set up a business. Botz is also open accordingly to Myer's opening times, so they'll be open pretty much the whole day. Their menu is all below $10 which is good, but I probably wouldn't pay $5 for one of their desserts again.
