Dining at the historical Gasworks
Botany is a cocktail restaurant café located in vibrant Gasworks Plaza in Newstead. True to its name, Botany has many beautiful real green plants which contribute to give a unique look and atmosphere to the restaurant.
Hanging from the ceiling, climbing on trainers or situated on benches and shelves, the plants contrast beautifully with the timber and the setup of the restaurant. The plants are looked after by the personnel on the premises to stay healthy and keep growing.
Botany is a great place for breakfasts, brunches, lunches, afternoon cocktails and dinners. It is a special place to have a coffee or a drink.
It is the ideal place to catch up with friends or to celebrate a special occasion with your family. A perfect place to have a business lunch or a drink after work with your colleagues.
The Botany menu offers sumptuous breakfasts, including Brioche Cinnamon French Toast, Potato Rosti, Avo on Toast, and Breakfast Bagel for $ 18 each. Eggs your way are $16 and Big Breakfast is $22. Every weekend there are Chef specials - ask about them.
Mains for lunch and dinner include Peroni Battered Fish & Chips $26, Slow Cooked Lamb 7 Polenta for $30, Market Fish $36, 250 G Trip-Tip Steak $38. Ask the staff for the special of the day. Sides include Garden Salad $ 10, Baked Potatoes $11 and Sea Salt Chips for $9.
Food for sharing is warm olives $9, Toasted Sourdough $8, Truffle Arancini $14, Crispy Calamari $16, Battered Fish Tacos $16 and grazing platter for $30.
Vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian food requirements are available at Botany. The Chef can easily transform some of the dishes on the menu according to the option requested.
There are plenty of attractive sitting options and areas in the restaurant. The ambiance is modern, sophisticated and elegant. Relax on one of the sofas and soak up the atmosphere.
There is an area in front of the bar, a large dining place in front of the wooden shelves and an area with views straight on the green outside in the Gasworks. Choose the place where you want to sit according to your mood and the occasion.
Botany has a list of wines carefully selected from Australia, New Zealand, Italy and France to suit everyone's taste.
Available are also crafty beer selections from Australia's best brews on tap and bottle.
On the Cocktails list is Lychee Martini, Bloody Shiraz and Rhubarb Sour, Spice of Life, Watermelon Crush and many more. Enjoy a cocktail under the canopy or just sitting by one of the large windows of the restaurant.
On the Carafes list, you find Botany Sangria, Lychee Mojito & Pimms Cup. Spritz include Classic Aperol Spritz, Brookvale Spritz, Blueberry Spritz and Limoncello Spritz.
For years, the area known as Gasworks was an underutilised wasteland behind a rusty fence. In 2004, a project to clean up and transform the area started to be in place.
The old Gasworks was opened in 1887 and provided lighting to some areas in Brisbane for decades. In particular, commercial gas supply started in London in 1812, Sydney in 1841 and Melbourne in 1856. Brisbane wanted to provide street lightning too using gas.
The heritage-listed Newstead Gas Ring stands as an iconic witness of Brisbane's gas history. Today, Gasworks is a trendy and vibrant dining and shopping destination.
