A celebration of our natural environment, gardening and sustainability, register here to attend Botanica Fest 2021. At the event, entry is by Gold Coin Donation for a day of botanical fun at Rippon Lea Estate, 192 Hotham St, Elsternwick on Sunday 18 April 2021 from 10am to 4pm AEST. From a plant and book sale to an open-air market and garden tours, there's a full day of activities to enjoy.
All plants sold at the event have been lovingly grown at Rippon Lea Nursery. For a bargain, the used book sale is where you'll find pre-loved garden/agriculture themed books for under $20. The garden at the Estate has a lot of beautiful features to immerse yourself in, including the Fernery Soundscape. A special serene green space, download the soundscape created specifically for the fernery and add to the experience by listening to it on your own device as you wander among the ferns.
There's also a Bonsai Exhibition showcasing some of the finest examples from The Bonsai Society of Victoria. You'll find it in the opulent interior of the Ballroom, where you'll learn the technique of traditional Japanese styles and contemporary relationships applied to the bonsai craft.
The gardening team and volunteers are on standby to take you on a Garden Tour which includes the social history of this magnificent Victorian era pleasure garden . You'll discover significant trees of Rippon Lea and a Gardening Q&A. The City of Glen Eira will take you on a Bird Observation Walk, if you're so inclined, for a discovery of the local birdlife through the estate.
Throughout the day, the amazing Australian Fair concert organ which is over 100 years old, will be performing on the main lawn. Last but not least, have a fun day exploring the stalls of local growers and sellers of plants, bulbs, garden equipment, and sustainably created objects at the Open Air Market, thanks to The Rose Street Market.
