There are 16 installations scattered around the gardens. Some are best enjoyed in the sunshine of day while others really only shine at night. So, Botanica really needs two visits or one starting in the late afternoon and going into the evening.

Or you can just grab a program and children's discovery trail map from the stands at the Alice St entrance to the gardens and do it yourself! An interesting addition to the self-guided experience is the Unearthed project by Natasha Billing, who teamed with a game developer, Joshua Textor, to develop an app you can download to your smartphone to interact with seven sites of historical interest around the gardens. The app is available for free from the app store. Kids would love searching the gardens for the sites, marked by a decal on the ground.
