Skip back through time, become a villager and construct your own organic shelter, cubbies and creatures in the Gardens, using materials collected on the premises. This is a chance for families to pull together and contribute to building a village and making it grow. Come along for an hour or two or bring a picnic and spend the whole day.

Botanica - A village in the Austrlian garden will be held at the Ian Potter Lakeside Precinct, Australian Garden, Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria - Cranbourne Gardens , 1000 Ballarto Rd (cnr Ballarto rd & Botanic drive - set GPS for 1061 Ballarto Rd), Cranbourne. Dates and times are from Wed 11 April to Sat 14 April 2018, 11am to 3pm on all days. This is a family-friendly free event. For enquiries, or wheelchair users (to advise prior to attendance for assistance onto the lawn) call 03 5990 2200 or email [email protected] or stay in touch via the event page .

Following the success of Botanica at Melbourne Gardens, this hands-on event is curated by artist Darryl Cordell. Inspired by his childhood in the bush, for the adults, it's going to be a Swiss Family Robinson (a movie, that perhaps should be an inspirational prequel to this event) moment. For the kids, it's about letting loose their imagination and creativity and working as a team.

This brainchild of Moomba parade, creative director and theatre designer Darryl Cordell, is not one to miss. It definitely ranks high in much more than just the fun department, so be sure to bring friends or the whole family and come along. It's suitable for all ages.

The Ian Potter Lakeside Precinct, with its lush green lawn, overlooks sculptured award-winning features. It's a unique public events space that caters for up to 1500 people. Looking out over the Ian Potter lake, it's a great place for both education and entertainment.

Both Cranbourne and Melbourne Gardens host a number of events throughout the year and is worth checking out for the school holiday periods.
