Five piece Boston outfit The Static Dynamic are a band alive with a jolting rock vibe. If you need a hit of emotive vocals, deep driving rhythms, and super-catchy riffs then their single 'Spotlight' needs to find a home in your earphones. Better yet, let it reverberate through the house a few times and seep through your system.

With a deep love of the Boston music scene and an equally passionate enthusiasm about producing genuinely infectious post-rock, The Static Dynamic are sure to hit a note with fans of solid, pulsating rock music. Taking time out from their hectic music schedule, the band chatted about what is happening over there in one of the oldest cities in the US.

Q:First things first, how did you do in the Rock n' Roll Rumble ? Tell us about the event, your preparation and what it means to get your music out this way.

Essentially a battle of the bands, The Rock n' Roll Rumble has been a Boston-based musical tradition for over 35 years that brings in acts from all over the area once a year to try their hand at the crown. In the beginning, it starts with 24 bands narrowed down to 8 semi-finalists then 3 finalists. We made it to the last round as a wildcard and came in 3rd place!

We practiced very hard in preparation to make it the tightest, most in-your-face set we possibly could that is a blast to play but also a blast for the crowd to experience. Timing is very important when it comes to the Rumble, each band is allotted a 30-minute set and must do their best to hit that mark or points could be docked.

There are many other factors that tally the judging system but the bottom line is practicing the set from beginning to end as if we were playing it live is a great way to prepare for something like this! We have been so grateful just to be chosen to participate in this event let alone make it this far!

Q: I believe you've all been together for about eight years? How did you all meet and what is the Boston music scene like for your style?

Steph and I played some gigs back about 8 years ago under The Static Dynamic name but with a different line-up and different songs. We kept the band name because it was fitting for our style and in a way was sentimental.

About 2 years ago we started writing new material and solidified a new line-up. The newer songs we've written over the past couple of years still have some of the older poppy feel to them but the overall sound has matured and almost has become a bit more dark.

We had a wonderful response from the Rumble, which will open us up to more gig opportunities in Boston and beyond. The local Boston scene welcomes all different styles of music. It is a great melting pot for artists in that way. You can be yourself and play what you want. Boston has a small but very supportive music and art scene up and down. I don't know if I could ever leave :)

Q: How is the EP shaping up? What else does the band do in between rehearsing, gigging and producing music?

The recording is coming along! We actually decided to release each track as singles instead of an EP this time around. So far we have 2 songs out, "Relentless" which was introduced back in December and our most recent "Spotlight" which we released a couple weeks back, the same day as our first round Rumble set.

We will be releasing 2-3 more songs from this batch of tracks. As far as future shows, we have one coming up in a few weeks along with another two we haven't announced yet. We're currently working on more summer bookings!

Q: For Australians that may not have heard of you, what would you like them to know about you as a band, your music, how it all comes together?

We are a progressive ambient rock band with poppy hooks, a touch of grunge and a sprinkle of electronic. We certainly do our own thing but a lot of our influence comes from 90's era rock, the decade we all grew up in and found our musical beginnings. Sometimes we surprise ourselves with how everything comes together.

We all work full time jobs and have busy lives outside of the band so it can be a juggling act. We've had to time crunch for gigs and studio before...you just have to take it one step at a time, not stress and realize how fragile and beautiful your art really is and to not ever half-ass it or take it for granted.

Q: You're a self-managed band, what has been the highlight and lowlight of your journey so far?

One challenging thing we faced in the beginning of our band was getting our first few shows booked. When you're trying to get a brand new project out there, sometimes it's hard to get people to listen initially. Presence is key and getting people psyched and on board with what you're doing. Don't give up!

Writing and recording have been a consistent highlight in this band! We are continuously bouncing ideas back and forth. A lot of our songs start with Steph creating some magic riffs in her home studio and bringing them to us. Other times we come up with ideas at practice and it goes from there. There is really no set formula. We go in the direction the music takes us.
