Warm up - with a sip or a shot
With a name like Borsch, Vodka, and Tears, you simply cannot resist the urge to walk in and check out the place. It is an intimate space, decorated with quirky touches. It is a cafe by day, and a vodka bar by night.
One of the friendly cafe staff you'll likely see here
Come during the day and fill yourself up with their tasty breakfast and lunch dishes (all available till 3PM), and because their menu is modern Polish, expect to see pierogi, przekaski, and, of course, borsch in there. I had a plate of their Big Breakfast - an excellent combination of eggs, tomatoes, breakfast bratwurst, bacon and potato blintz - and two cups of very good Genovese coffee. It is a place that inspires you to linger, to pause and enjoy the moment. Which is exactly what I did with my second cup of coffee.
But wait. It is also a well-stocked vodka bar, with an impressive list of varieties that will make any connoisseur grin with joy. Who knew vodka could be: clear, lightly infused, oak-matured, herbal, and flavored with honey and spice and all things nuts?
If you're intrigued already, here's one more tidbit to stimulate your palate: they also have absinthe, infamous for its notoriously high alcohol volume content. So, would you prefer it true or bohemian?
