Material Reverie gives new meaning and beauty to overlooked objects, with the exhibition being held from Thursday 20 January to Sat 9 April 2022 at Town Hall Gallery, 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn. This free, major group exhibition explores the rich variety of materials used by contemporary Australian artists in their practice. Up-cycling and sustainability practice at its best, they've foraged natural fibres, minerals, discarded everyday objects and household items and created new forms that depart from their inherent purpose.

Throughout history artists have created tools, mark making techniques and methods of production to capture their impression of the world. Using traditional weaving, sculpture and carving techniques, alongside more contemporary approaches to design, collage and painting, the source materials are given new meaning and beauty. This is exactly what this exhibition celebrates. The transformative potential of the relationship between imagination and craftsmanship. This exhibition features artworks from the Town Hall Gallery Collection and artists Robert Brown, Teelah George, Dana Harris, Lou Hubbard, Shigemi Iwama, Cassie Leatham, Jahnne Pasco-White, and Louise Saxton.
