A cuppa and a good book. If that's your idea of a heaven and you haven't been to Borders yet, what are you waiting for? This book superstore boasts an extensive range of titles and a coffee shop to boot.

The Borders range includes practically all the fiction, non fiction and magazine titles you could ask for (including imports), plus children's literature, CDs and DVDs, stationary and giftware. The fiction section in particular is a great place to browse, with shelf after shelf crammed with fresh, glossy new books. The non fiction area can be harder to navigate, so try and find a staff member to point you in the direction of the topic you're after. You can also look up titles on the computer to find out their availability and location.

But if you're not in the shopping mood, just grab a book or a stack of magazines and make yourself at home in one of the comfy armchairs. Or, if the armchairs are already spoken for (which can be common during busy periods) settle in at the Gloria Jeans Coffee Shop and wile away the afternoon with a coffee and a great read. The coffee shop offers a range of delicious hot and cold drinks, as well as food including pies, baked goods and some top notch banana bread.

If you love poking around little second hand bookstores hunting for first editions, this might not be your bag. And coffee connoisseurs will have to make up their own minds as to whether Gloria Jean's brew is up to snuff. But few booklovers will be able to resist this bibliophile's paradise.

Borders stores are located in Camberwell, Carlton, Chadstone, Doncaster, Geelong, Highpoint, Knox, Melbourne Central, South Wharf and South Yarra.
