Financial pressures have become greater, it seems, in recent times. Fees, charges and taxes seem to be increasing all the time, and the basic cost of goods appears to rise above and beyond CPI.

In this regard, second hand shops have seen an increase in popularity, as a place where decent quality can be found for a bargain price.



So, that brings me to this shop. If you are into books and reading, then one of the better second hand shops I have come across is , at 36 Valiant Road, Holden Hill.

Set into a small shopping strip, it is itself a relatively small shop, but well worth checking out. It has been there for two years now, after the original shop on Research Rd, Pooraka was burnt down.

To start with, it is well laid out. Fiction books are placed in genre blocks by alphabetical order (by author). Non-fiction books are also well organised. Too often I've gone into book shops where books are placed apparently haphazardly, or the books are shoved in wherever they fit, so the authors are spread out everywhere. 's layout makes browsing much easier.



All major fiction genres are represented, with a wide selection of horror, fantasy and science fiction, crime, romance and war books particularly. In non-fiction, most topics can be found on the shelves, from paranormal to sport, true crime to biography.



They have a wide variety of children's books, catering for all ages from early readers to teenagers.

Further, they have a small collection of games, vinyl albums and old VCR tapes, as well as one of the best organised magazine sections I have come across.



So if you want something to wile away the hot summer days, visit Julie in and stock up. You won't be disappointed.
