I'm a freelance writer. My passions are Art, Dining out, and quirky things. I enjoy uncovering hidden in plain sight gems.

I'm one of those people that would happily frivol away a whole day, week or year in a bookshop. I can always find more books to read. I feel extremely lucky that I can walk around Melbourne, find a place to sit and peruse through a potential new book, before I buy it.

It also proves that despite the Kindle, the eBook and modern technology that Books simply never go out of fashion.

These are my favourite bookstores.

Dymocks Collins Street Melbourne & other locations

I have for a long time sought out the services of the Special Order Desk from Dymocks. They are excellent in sourcing books from overseas that are not available on the bookshelves in Melbourne. Their book club is great too, providing points and discounts for purchases once you hit a certain amount. At Christmas time they provide a wrapping service for books and you are always greeted with a smile.

They also have a discount section where you can get books that they are finding hard to sell. I always find it's good to look here for quirky books and other books that you wouldn't normally find straight away. It's a great section to expand one's literary world.

Readings Lygon Street Carlton & other locations

Readings has been a Melbourne Institution for a number of years. It allows unpublished authors from Melbourne to get their books out.

It's a great book store because it splits off the children's section from the adult's section. So if you're an adult seeking solitude minus children, the children can go to the store next door and you can peruse the adult store.

They have an impressive DVD collection, as well as a great selection of Music CDs. They also have quirky magazines not necessarily found elsewhere in Melbourne.

Robinsons at The Emporium & other locations

Robinson's Book Store has really come into its own. For many years I only visited the Frankston store. Now Melbourne is lucky enough to have a store in the Emporium.

They have a wide range of both local authors and overseas books. The stand out for me is their travel section. It is extensive and well sourced with Lonely Planet and other books.

For those with kids, the teenager and children's section is also quite comprehensive.

Those are my favourite bookstores, what are yours?
