This is great news for cook book lovers. With so many book shops dying here is one that is stepping up the pace and moving to where it probably should have been in the first place.

Book for Cooks (currently at 233 Gertrude St, Fitzroy) is moving to the Queen Victoria Market.

Excellent thinking as the Queen Vic Market is where foodies tend to congregate. Both chefs and home cooks. Like bees to a honey pot.

The great thing is that when you find a new ingredient in the market, you will now be able to go off to Books for Cooks to find out how to cook it. Or visa versa, you start looking through some of their cook books find a recipe and know that you will be able to venture out into the market and find all the ingredients you need.

Books for Cooks sells new books but also second hand ones. So this is where you go to get an Elizabeth David or even an old treasured Womens' Weekly cookbook. As you can see from some of the photos they also sell vintage and antiquarian cookbooks as well. Of their thousands of books some even date back from the 1780s.

Books for Cooks is Australia's specialist independent culinary bookstore with Australia's largest collection of cookbooks about wine, food and the culinary arts.

Their subject range also includes:

Food history, sociology and science;
Wine, spirits, cocktails, coffee, tea and other beverages;
Kitchen gardens and food production;
Food and wine guides;
Foreign language cookbooks;
Hospitality, restaurant and catering management, restaurant design along with other food related topics.

Owners Amanda and Tim White are both great foodies and bibliophiles.

Amanda worked as a professional cook, caterer, cake maker and kitchen manager. She is a passionate baker. Tim's great loves are wine, food and books and he has also worked in restaurants, pubs and the food industry. He has also written an occasional column for The Age – Epicure on food history.

If you happen to come upon any of their other staff they are all also all keen cooks.

The move to the market will take place in mid-June 2015

Their new address will be 129-131 Therry St (opposite H Shed).

Great thing is that they also offer a free search service for hard-to-find or out-of-print cookbooks.
