Ten West Australian writers from the Advanced Writers' Group at Peter Cowan Writers' Centre Inc will launch their anthology
Other Voices: a collection of short stories on Saturday, 8 February 2014.
The launch will commence at 4 pm beside the lake at Edith Cowan House on ECU's Joondalup Campus. Perth writer, Susan Midalia, will be guest speaker at the launch with the authors reading extracts from their stories.
Other Voices contains ten short stories. The writers featured in
Other Voices are: Sue Braghieri, Rebecca Collins, Dawn Fisher, Amanda Gardiner, John Hollywood, Julia Mackay-Koelen, Wilma Mann, Rashida Murphy, Josephine Taylor and Hannah van Didden.
Their stories convey themes of memory and loss, power and illness, morality, unease and personal tragedy. They take readers on a journey into settings that include 19th century England, post-war Europe and Iran, contemporary landscapes, and other imaginary worlds.
The anthology marks the culmination of the Advanced Writers' Course, hosted by PCWC for the first time in 2013. The writers were selected for the course based on their prose submissions, with each workshop facilitated by prominent WA published authors.
Other Voices will be available to purchase on the day for $15 (cash only), and thereafter from Peter Cowan Writer's Centre.
