There is a season for everything, according to The Byrds classic 1965 hit; well now is the time to come on down to Book Bazaar and turn the tables on the digital revolution.

Book Bazaar will begin selling vinyl long playing records (LP's), donated by the State Library of Western Australia from November 2. Book Bazaar has several thousand of these high quality, long playing records in excellent condition (many of the album covers still in the protective plastic) that will be progressively available for sale.

What goes around, comes around

Listening to records was a communal experience, checking covers for the next one to play, talking to those around you, even singing along. Not the lonely experience of the iPod listener, immersed in his or her own earplug world or picking a song from the sterile list of downloads on media.

All your senses are involved as you remove the record from the cover (hold to read while listening), place record on the turntable, select the speed, pick the track, place pick up needle arm (checking the needle for replacement) on record, and start. Cranking up the volume is part of the deal.

The album covers&biw=1067&bih=693&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CCUQsARqFQoTCOr_nvzs6MgCFSUWpgodOpsK3Q album covers were as desired as much as the music; works of art in themselves and a necessary companion to the music. I would suggest more so now that they cannot be replaced.

Unique chance to pick up a vinyl LP while you can

You will find unique and rare records that the State Library has collected over many years. The State Library acquires music from all genres as a record of history; a great advantage over a commercial business bound by popular trends. Therefore, you may find that elusive record of your youth or discover a rare track thought lost. There is an eclectic mix of musical styles ranging from classical to rock and everything in between.

You can pick up a single LP for $30.00. For double or triple LP's the price will be $20 per record (so a double LP will cost $40). Box sets (of which there are many) will be $20 per record, so a box set containing five records will cost $100.

A few covers to flip through

I cannot the count hours spent flipping through records at the Record Bar, in my youth. If you could not find the disc wanted, no problems, just reorder. Sadly, as with their 'old/collectables' books, no rain checks for these unique LP's. What you see is what you get and once gone they are gone.

Take advantage of Vinyl November at Book Bazaar

During the month of November, these and countless more LP's will be progressively introduced to Book Bazaar. This is a unique opportunity to source many old and rare vinyl records. All genres are catered for, from rock and roll, classic and pop, to musicals and film soundtracks all in their beautiful album covers, many still in protective plastic.

Dig the music dig the garden in November

While checking out the LP's, you can pick up three gardening books for $10.00 during November. One hundred thousand books on display at any one time ensure a massive choice.

Open five days a week

Book Bazaar is open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm.

When you get to 10 Selby Street, Shenton Park, turn off into a little (privately owned, by Spine & Limb Foundation) road called Ellis Griffiths Avenue. The ParaQuad building is about 300m along Ellis Griffiths Avenue.

Enjoy free parking and public toilets. No need to rush off, stay a while and browse.

Friendly volunteers to assist you

Volunteers assist the Book Bazaar Supervisor, Elke Schaumann staff the sales. If you become overwhelmed with the number of books and vinyls and need help, just ask. There is a double bonus shopping at Book Bazaar; as you find the book (or books) of your choice, you help disabled persons.
