A library in a bookshop
When is a library not a library? That's a question easily answered with a relaxing rummage through pre-loved library books at Book Bazaar. Explore the new under table displays, sitting on small stools, or the floor (if that is your style) and choose your 'forever' book.
Books abound for the children
With the school holidays almost here, now is the time to take the children for a browse and stock up on some reading material. Once the children start discovering the books, especially the big selection of Little Golden Books on display there will be no stopping them.
Stay a while, they have you covered
Held in air-conditioned comfort (just right for these cold days) with toilet and bathroom facilities available. This is a great boon for those with little ones (or anyone else), who seem to want to 'go' at the most inopportune time. The
café on site will be
open until 3:00pm on Friday only, where you can fuel up between rounds of browsing.
Seize the moment, there are no rain checks
You can get lost in the moment while browsing, but if you spot that prize, grab it with both hands. There are
no rain checks or
sourcing an extra copy from the supplier, from this distinctive bookshop. Unlike commercial bookshops,
Book Bazaar is refreshed each week with a donation of
several thousand books by the
State Library of Western Australia . Thus, even with a choice of over
160,000 books on display at one time, you may never get a second chance.
Free parking
Ample
FREE parking (please follow signs), with all facilities
wheelchair friendly, ensures easy and hassle-free access. No city street parking or meters to worry about, so feel free to browse as long as you like.
If you need a hand
Friendly volunteers are available to assist you. With such a large collection of books, it can get confusing, even for a free-range browser. However, as I love a good rummage, I tend to rush in like a child in a lolly shop. If you love books and people, becoming a volunteer may be just up your 'aisle'. Send an email to,
[email protected] or call 9381 0193, if you are interested.
No rush, relax and take your time
Book Bazaar is normally open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm with great bargains. However,
Friday,
June 22 and
Saturday,
June 23 is the time to take advantage of their
half price off everything offer. Having scored a bargain or two myself, I can attest to the unique variety of preloved library books available.
Follow the signs
Arriving at 10 Selby Street, Shenton Park, turn off into a little (privately owned, by Spine & Limb Foundation) road called Ellis Griffiths Avenue. The ParaQuad building is about 300m along Ellis Griffiths Avenue. Large banners placed out on Selby Street ensure even the casual driver will not miss the turnoff. Then follow the signs for a perfect parking spot.
