Bonzer Car Boot Sale at Olinda Community House

There is a house where the community "rocks" together. The Olinda Community House serves the community on the ridge of the stunning, misty Dandenongs; being shared by the people across the townships of Olinda, Ferny Creek, Sassafras and Mount Dandenong and Kalorama.





The house is the place that lies in the heart of the people and the town, surrounded by the newly reopened Olinda Swimming Pool, and a major new re-development being planned for the former Olinda Golf Course, and the Olinda Elderly Citizens Centre.



This facility initially catered to just the Elderly Citizens but now several buildings have combined to become a hub of supportive activities for everyone in the area. It's the place to be to meet friends and learn new skills. It is an inclusive, warm friendly place and it's waiting for you to find it with open arms.



According to Sue Tapp, one of the committee members, she feels, "It is a lovely retro look building with a big hall and stage and several meeting rooms and a large kitchen. The house runs a large number of great classes every term. See the program at www.och.net.au. However we struggle to have people find out about the House, where it is and what it offers as well as classes. So thanks so much for taking up our Car Boot sale and writing about it ".

Now most car boot sales, like the local church around the corner from me, has about 12-20 spots or stalls. It's intimate, but there is not huge variety. And not much "piazza". Well the Olinda Community House has a massive car park and can fit over 80 stalls. They give a real focus to promoting local groups and for their very first car boot sale, last October, they were packed out with predominantly first time local sellers who loved the experience. And they are clambering for "More please!".



This year they have the Emerald Artisan Bakery coming, Grand Ridge Brewery, Warbotanicals, Nutrimetics, Intimo Lingerie plus heaps of Market stalls selling Car Boot Bargains.We are serving curries made by one of our Tutors- Pearl Yeo with entertainment.

Last time they had two choirs- Sweet Sassafras and Vokallista plus the Kalulu Ukelele Orchestra and the Soopa Doopa Bush Band perform and this time they are having the Loude Medieval Band plus some other artists.

The Olinda House Staff and volunteers also put on a wonderful sausage sizzle, Devonshire Teas and had a Coffee cart. There are also many displays by the art groups, face painting, CFA, school and community group stalls. It was a fantastic day that was enjoyed by friends, families and stall holders. It was basically "Bootastic". Yes, I do make up words; maybe one word will end up in the dictionary one day.



Are you feeling, "Oh no, I missed it". I do this frequently with Weekend Notes events, so I understand that feeling. But wait, luck is with you as your star sign enters Jupitor, there's one coming soon.



The next Bonzer Car Boot Sale is on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 9-3pm. And because of all the traffic and interest and wonderful time had by all last year, they are extending it to 70 spaces in the yard plus tutors will be running sample classes inside the house. So you can get a sneak peak about what skills you can gain via local training at this Learn Local Centre. And those events are numerous, with over 50 courses and activities running per term. Yes, you no wax in your ears, PER TERM.

And this time, they have my favourite thing; they have show bags to give away with goodies and samples from local Community groups.

This is the vital bit. You need to make a date with yourself, for April 23 and again for November 5, 2016 and either plan on taking a whopping big shopping bag, or better still clear out your cupboards and book a stall and sell, sell, sell.

Maybe you have an old pram lying about you can stroll around with and fill easily.



And if you need to host any event, dinner dance, ballet exhibition, theatre group, wedding anniversary, baby shower, 21st, trivia nights, kids birthday parties, etc, they have a stunning hall to hire that fits over 100 people with a full stage. Let the party begin in Olin.



This hidden treasure of a house is located at
79-81 Olinda Monbulk Rd., Olinda. It is surrounded by the stunning mountains of the Dandenongs. It is a wonderful drive of only an hour out of Melbourne.
