If you haven't yet been to the Soul Box you are seriously out of touch with Adelaide's thespian, comedy, cabaret, spoken word and music scene. At last the West End has an arts venue to rival everything that happens in the East End at Fringe time - and radical performances continue to happen there all year round.
The latest comedy offering is Bonnie Davies, touring Adelaide for two shows only on July 11th and 12th. Bonnie made her standup comedy debut in February 2008, and since then she has toured the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Festival and the UK. She recently won 'Best Local Comedy' at FRINGE WORLD 2012 and was nominated for 'Best of the Fest' in the Wild West Festival 2011.
You can see a sample of her comedy on YouTube, and since last July she's been developing a hilarious alter ego known as Sharron.
But this show, it seems, is about the real Bonnie and the challenges she faced growing up surrounded by trauma, addictions and a generous helping of love. 'I'm High On Life, What Are You On?' promises to be a relentlessly cheerful yet heart-rending story of a household that kept the door constantly open to welcome problems, instead of keeping them out.
