It's okay, everyone, calm down – Bonne Journée Patisserie has finally opened their second location, and it's exactly where you want it to be: Terrigal Don't you feel calm? I thought so. Now to the even more pressing matter at hand – is it as good as
their original store in East Gosford ? That question was stupid. I'm judging you for even asking it. But the answer is yes. The incredible team behind Bonne Journée have managed to transfer everything that was magic to the gorgeous new digs right in the heart of Terrigal.
All of your favourites have come to play in Terrigal: salted caramel tarts, rocky road brownies, crème brûlée, and Belgian chocolate mouse cake. Did someone mention croissants? Oh, it was me. Right now. Coming in the regular kind, the chocolate variety, and my personal favourite – apple – these croissants are flaky, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Do yourself a favour and collect the whole set. They're like Pokemon cards for grown-ups.
Coffee-lovers will love the Illy coffee, which goes perfectly with the following things from the menu: every. single. thing. So there's that. Or if you're after something a little different, ask for the off-menu Harry Potter-inspired Butterbeer latte. It's sweet, and warming, and cinnamon-ny and hugs your insides. There'll be no regrets.
If you need respite from the beating sun, you'll love my next suggestion: the gelato shakes. Ask Pete behind the counter to surprise you with something delicious. You won't be disappointed. These babies are made with Pure Gelato, and are possibly the best shakes on the Central Coast. I don't make that claim lightly – I love milkshakes.
Want to take something home for your loved ones? Or, y'know, to snack on in bed while you watch TV. Ask for a takeaway box. Or grab a loaf of the freshly-baked bread. Oh, the bread. If you're avoiding carbs, make this your cheat day. Trust me.
The décor is simple but elegant. The interior is a dark, moody, sophisticated escape from the bustle of the busy street and beach beyond, complete with tasteful light fittings and gorgeous framed pictures. If you prefer to gorge yourself on baked treats in the great outdoors, however, you can perch at one of the tables on the sidewalk outside. This means you can nibble on French pastries and be the envy of every person walking by (read: inhale your irresistible food while perving on the beautiful bodies).
