Some summer activities are just better al fresco under a canopy of velvet skies and twinkling stars - dining and dancing spring immediately to mind. This summer why not try your movies al fresco with the added bonus of salt tang air and the sounds of the ocean?. Welcome to the 2012 summer edition of Ben and Jerry's Openair Cinema Bondi, screening from 29 January to 4 March 2012.
Open air cinemas are all the rage around Australia at the moment. If the weather's good it can certainly add to the whole cinematic experience, and Bondi has become something of a movie mecca over recent years, also being home to FlickerFest and the Adventure Film Festival.
This summer's Openair Cinema lineup offers some old favourites along with current blockbusters and previews of soon-to-be-released films. The festival opens on Sunday 29 January with Bill Cunningham New York - a loving portrait of ageless New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham, and closes on Sunday 4 March with the biting comedy Young Adult. There are even a few hot Golden Globe contenders such as the George Clooney vehicles, The Ides of March and The Descendants, and Woody Allen's witty homage to Paris, Midnight in Paris, starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams. Golden oldies include Breakfast at Tiffany's and the 1980's fantasy blockbuster, Labyrinth. The full program is available here.

Sundae Session Charity Night A highlight of this year's festival will be the Sundae Session Charity Night on Sunday February 5. The Cat Empire, Hungry Kids of Hungary and Winter People will play before the evening's film - the award winning doco, Life in a Day. There will be games on the Dolphin Lawn and free Ben and Jerry's ice cream for all patrons. All proceeds from ticket sales for this event will go to Australians for Cambodian Education, a charity chosen by The Cat Empire. For this event you determine how much you would like to donate. You can purchase tickets ranging from $65 (the Shawshank Donation) up to $95 (the Million Dollar Brownie).
Life in a Day chronicles life across planet Earth on July 24 2010. Producer Ridley Scott and Director Kevin Macdonald sifted through 80,000 submissions and 4,500 hours of film from contributors from almost 200 countries to create this extraordinary planetary snapshot.
See triple the stars this summer - on the screen, on stage and in the sky at Ben and Jerry's Openair Cinema Bondi.
