So you think the only word that goes with Bondi is beach? Wrong - there is so much more to this delightful area in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney as I discovered recently. On this visit, I discovered the lovely markets that are held at Bondi Public School every Saturday and Sunday.
Strolling along the Bondi ocean front, there are mosaic seats and tables with iconic images of the beach life, surfers and people having fun.
There is an amazing sign on entry which sums up so well what we should all be striving for.
And there are lots and lots of fabulous stalls and shops selling everything from ECO-friendly bags to cold coffee to plants to cold chai (never thought I would see that) to delicious food, clothes, vegetables and best of all for me bright and beautiful flowers that I simply could not walk past.
The market extends all the way around the school. In the front part, closer to the ocean, there are often live bands and performances for families and groups of friends. A lovely grassy area is perfect for a sit-down and picnics. Around the side of the school are the fresh produce stalls, the bakers, the butchers but I didn't see any candlestick makers. Then, right at the back, is the best bit of all - an expansive flower market with the most gorgeous flowers to brighten up your day.
