With a select number of the very best of Indian cinema, the Bollywood Film Festival presents a unique opportunity to highlight the cultural significance of India through a cinematic lens.
Kennedy - Opening Night: a highly anticipated film from Anurag Kashyap, Kennedy tells a story of an insomniac ex-cop long thought to be dead, but still operating in the corrupt system. A grim tale set in the dark underbelly of Mumbai.
Dug Dug : a festival favourite, this is a debut feature film from Ritwik Pareek. It delves into the bizarre and colourful world where a motorbike in an Indian village makes everyone's dreams come true; if you pray and offer it alcohol.
To Kill A Tiger : one of two outstanding documentaries featured, an Indian farmer demands justice for his 13 year old daughter who was brutally gang raped. His support for his daughter is virtually unheard of in its culture, and his journey, unprecedented.
Fire in the Mountains : a debut feature from writer-director Ajitpal Singh, this is a searing portrait of power at play between tradition and modernity in one family. An unconventional story of feminist strength in the beautiful Himalayas.
Brand Bollywood Downunder : this documentary explores the success and failures of Bollywood's rise as a serious subculture in Australia and around the world.
Joram - Closing Night: a Hindi survival thriller, a desperate man and his infant daughter flee a system that will crush them at any cost; a cop giving unwilling chase; and a bereaved mother seeking ruthless vengeance.
