Steeped in over 100 years of history, Boggo Road Gaol is one of Brisbane's most intriguing and culture-enriched heritage sites.

Originally built in 1883, it became the scene of many important moments in Australia's history. From its opening to its official closure in 1992, the trials and tribulations of the Boggo Road era have been preserved by story-telling, anecdotes and raw historical evidence that now make up the foundation of Boggo Road Gaol's family-friendly History Tour.

Purchase a family ticket for our daily History tour for only $59.00 these school holidays! Admission for 2 Adults and 2 Children.

One of Brisbane's best all-ages attractions, Boggo Road Gaol's daily interactive History Tour takes you behind the famous red brick walls and invites you to relive the many mysteries of the gaol. Alongside a friendly tour guide, you'll walk through the gatehouse, exercise yards, the 'circle' and one of the original cell blocks. Kids will find themselves thrust back in time as they ring the gaol bell and converse through the walls of the visitors' centre.

The History Tour is an educational and fun approach to Brisbane's penitentiary roots. Hear about inmates Houdini "Slim" Halliday, the last man hung, Ernest Austin, and the Whiskey Au Go Go bombers, James Finch and John Stuart, as well as the officers and even 'Tripod the Gaol Cat' on this fascinating public history tour.

As well as the History Tour, visitors can enjoy the 'Gallows Exhibition' - open every day during the school holidays at 12.45pm.

This exhibition was created to tell the story of punishment within the walls of Boggo Road Gaol in an educational and interesting way. For the first time, the known remaining pieces of the Gallows, as well as pieces of the dreaded Black Hole - an underground dungeon - have been brought together at Boggo Road Gaol.

The exhibition includes several displays telling the stories of those executed, their crimes, and their awful punishments. It also explores the long political battle to abolish capital punishment - a practice that began in the 1890s - and looks at the Labor and community leaders who fought to remove the death penalty. Tickets $9.50 - $25.00. Click here to book your ticket.

Don't forget to stop by the onsite Goal Shop which stocks several kid-friendly souvenirs including t-shirts, magnets, posters and even Gaol Director, Jack Sim's book collection including the latest release History of Boggo Road Gaol 1883-1999 at the special discounted price of $25.00 (RRP $35.00).
