If you are the type of person who can only engage in workouts when surrounded with those who follow instructions from an aerobics coach, then welcome to the club! It's most probably the esprit de corps and the 'if they can do it, I can do it' attitude that brings you to the same room in the first place. Well, congratulations! You are on your way to a healthy life style.

The type of aerobics classes one chooses to go to most probably depends on what class is on offer at the time that suits a busy schedule. Fair enough! Every aerobics class is designed to offer a fitness result depending on the type of exercise, anyway. I am happy to go to any classes available at my convenience. However, over a period of time I develop a favourite. This is BodyCombat from Les Mills Group Fitness programs.

BodyCombat is a choreographed exercise to music inspired by martial arts moves which includes Muay Thai, Kung Fu, Boxing, Tai Chi, Taekwondo, Capoeira and Karate. It is a non-contact cardio workout that guarantees to release stress while burning off up to 740 calories.

The first time I saw BodyCombat while waiting for the next aerobics class, I thought the moves were a bit daunting as I never had martial arts training at all. But from where I was standing, I could feel the empowering aura coming from the room and I thought the music was very stimulating. So, when I got the chance, I tried BodyCombat class. It felt really good the first time. One does not need to have martial arts experience. There are options shown for those who would rather workout on a lower impact. In short, each person can work at his/her own level.

Every time I go to BodyCombat at HBF Arena, everybody in the room seems to be giving all they've got. And why won't they when the instructors are so motivated and bring out the best fighter attitude in the room. The synergetic shout of the battle cry, kiai, release the inner energy from each and everyone in the room. Inhibitions are gone and the goal is to finish the fight. My fight is to defeat those unwanted extra calories. And you know what, I always win!

Here's a sneak peek of some of the moves and the energetic mood in a BodyCombat class.
