From 13 August to 18 November 2018, this original exhibition of real human bodies is coming to the Melbourne Showgrounds. Gain an understanding of the wonder that is the human body and learn about anatomy, physiology and health.
The exhibition has been running since it first went on display in Japan back in 1995 and since then has travelled to over 121 cities in America, Europe, Asia and Africa and has become one of the world's most successful travelling exhibitions.
The exhibition was put together by Physician and anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens, who invented the preservation process "Plastination" Don't worry, the specimens on display haven't been dug up, they are from an established body donation program with consenting donors. To date, over 17,000 bodies from around the world have been donated to Dr von Hagens' Institute for Plastination.
The Body Worlds Vital exhibition will take you on a journey through the human body via whole-body plastinates, showing individual organs that give a complete picture of how the body works.
The Australian tour focuses on today's diseases and ailments and how our lifestyle choices can impact our health and wellness. Vital tells the fascinating story of how best to fight life-threatening diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart ailments, through healthy choices and lifestyle changes.
The Anatomical Mirror is one of the interactive elements showing visitors how organs are positioned in their own body. There will also be a photo display that showcases longevity and healthy ageing and you'll be able to compare healthy organs to diseased organs.
