From fishing to paddleboarding, there's something for you
If you're looking to hire a boat for fishing in Sydney or have some fun in the water, then I suggest you keep reading. Many of these boats can be used for fishing in addition to other activities, including water sports, cruising to the beaches or between waterfront restaurants. Before hiring a boat, please ensure that at least one person in your group has a boat licence from Roads and Maritime Services NSW.
Boab Boats is a specialist boating company that has boats available for hire at Sydney Harbour and also on the Parramatta river.
Boab Boats are also able to access sporting equipment such as inflatable tubes, waterskis, wakeboards, kneeboards and snorkelling equipment. Hire costs at Boab Boats vary, starting from their least expensive boat by the name of the Kakadu Tinny, which you can hire for one day for $195.
Boab Boats is available in other locations, including Queensland and Victoria. However, NSW locations include the Central Coast, Hawkesbury River, Jervis Bay, Port Hacking / South Botany Bay, Port Stephens / Nelson's Bay, Sydney Harbour / Roseville and Wollongong in addition to the Parramatta and Sydney Harbour location.
Rose Bay Aquatic Hire has a fishing boat offering that's not to be sneezed at. For $150, you can hire a boat for four hours. After this, it is $30 per hour for each additional hour. Alternatively, you can choose to pay $100 for two hours and $30 per hour for each additional hour. Life jackets are supplied for free (i.e. included in the hire cost).
Rose Bay Aquatic Hire also offers Kayak Hire and Paddleboard hire. Kayaks can be hired for $25 (single kayak) and $50 (double kayak) per hour. Paddleboards start at $25 per hour and the rate includes a paddle and board. You can choose to pay $50 to get a twenty-minute lesson in addition to the one hour of hire if you want to learn from the professionals. You can also hire a four person stand up paddleboard for $80 per hour. These are only available on weekends, unless you book in advance for a weekday.
If you don't have a boat licence or if you just feel like going on a trip that's organised by somebody else, you should cast your gaze onto Bravo Fishing. Bravo Fishing offers a fully organised deep sea fishing trip, sports fishing trip or even a blue eyed cod fishing trip. Just turn up in your group of 7 or more (max 31) and off you go. Departure is early, at 5:30 am and you come back in the early afternoon at 1:30 pm. The cost for deep sea fishing trips is $150 per person. Sports Fishing trips are $200 per person. Blue Eyed Cod fishing trips are $250 per person. Departure is in Cronulla. Everything is already prepared for you, from fishing equipment, bait and chilled storage for everything you catch. A fantastic option for bucks and/or hens parties or for any group, Bravo Fishing seems like a great option for those who want the comfort of professionals on board.

Groupon / Scoopon Voucher Sales for Water Activities
If you're not looking to book for a specific event but are more just looking to have a bit of fun at some point without a specific date, you should look at Groupon and similar sites. There are lots of water activities for sale, such as whale watching, surf board rental, diving and cruises. You can also sometimes even find a cheap boat licence course for those who want to earn one of those.
