Cha'mone Motherf****er, it's proper Bo I tell the
As the Leeds sleaze Keith Lemon hits the sliver screen this year. I celebrate his alter ego Leigh Francis first creation's anniversary, the rubber masked lunatic party, that is Bo' Selecta.

I think I must of been thirteen when I first discovered the Bo. I remember walking into a now defunct rental shop and being greeted by a colourful yet odd DVD cover, the centre point of that cover being a peculiar ginger bloke with cast around his neck. It was a copy of Bo' Selecta series 2. To rent, the DVD were about two quid for seven nights so a great deal all-round but the age rating of 15 was my main obstacle of acquiring the selecta.

My mum saved the day and rented it for me, I got back home, put it on my PS2 and spent my evening laughing both my head and arse cleanly off. For the most part, I didn't understand some of the adult humour but I became immersed into rubbery world of Bo' Selecta and it's surreal and mad cap characters. Watching grotesque yet hilliarious carnations of famous faces.

A favourite skit of mine has to be either the Marylin Manson skits or Jack Osborne's obsession with brown bread. I cringely remember asking a school girl in my class to spit in my hand as Bo' Selecta's central character Avid Merrion (the ginger bloke on DVD cover) asks a celebrity to do to him.

Fast forward seven years or so and I was reunited with the same DVD again yet this time I bought it for two pounds, a great deal all-round. Watching the dvd again was a very nostalgic experience for me. A DVD and Bo' Selecta as a program (even if cheesly put) are a gateway to my youth. I'm reminded of constantly renting the DVD, too skint to buy it. Letting myself descend into their comedic world with friends or alone as maybe escapism, yet I think more as a confident boost for myself.

I was a shy child when I was younger and watching these masked loons lampoon pop culture and explode the normally calm procedures of television with anarchic humour. It gave me the confidence to act like a loon myself, which I still enjoy doing today.
So here's a cheers to the maverick mind of Avid Merrion aka Keith Lemon aka Leigh Francis. Happy tenth birthday Bo' Selecta. Let's hope you make a fifth series, it would be proper Bo I tell the, Chamone motherf***er. Thankyou please

Bo' Selecta series 1 - 3 and Bo in USA are available to buy from
