Bluey Verandah Santa is a 32-page hardback children's book that was published by Penguin Books on 3 November 2020. Verandah Santa was the very first Bluey Christmas Special that aired in Australia on 12 December 2019 to an audience of over 207,000 people. Verandah Santa begins on Christmas Eve. Bluey's entire family have gathered at her family's house to celebrate Christmas and wait for Santa's arrival. Muffin asks how Santa is going to be able to get into the house if there is no chimney. Bluey wonders if he uses the verandah to get inside. Bingo suggests they play a game of Verandah Santa.
Halfway through the game, Muffin's younger sister Socks rushes into the room and tries to join in, but gets nervous and bites Bluey on the arm. Dad scolds Socks and tells her it's not nice to bite people. Bluey is not happy enough with that and demands that Socks tells her that she is sorry. Dad reminds her that Socks is only one and doesn't know any better. Bluey is still mad. The next time it is Bluey's turn to be the Verandah Santa she punishes Socks for not saying sorry by not giving her a present. This causes Socks to run from the room in tears. Dad and Mum tell Bluey that she should go and apologise to Socks. Can Bluey learn how to say sorry?
Verandah Santa is a really great book for small children. I really liked that it came out as a hardback. It has a nice firm spine and a handsome front cover. The illustrations on the inside are bright and colourful and the text is large and easy for small children to read. I thought the book also contained a really important message in it about learning how to forgive and to be good and kind to others.
