It was a rainy, winter's day. I skipped with an umbrella towards McMahons Point with a view to shelter in a coffee shop. But then I came across the Blues Point Bookshop and it was just what I was looking for.

Located on Blues Point Road, McMahons Point, it is my favourite weekend escape to forget the world. The bookshop is small, almost in an attic kind of way, with books stacked right up the ceiling and a dusty, wonderful milieu.

The owner places short notes on many of the books, as a guide to the style of the novel which is very helpful. Places to sit encourage readers to linger a while and enjoy the quiet atmosphere.

Every few months, I settle myself in one of the armchairs and hide for an hour so. Enjoy this wonderful relic of how bookshops used to be.
