Peta Murray's award-winning stage adaptation of Blueback, by one of WA's most beloved authors, Tim Winton, returns to Spare Parts Puppet Theatre for a strictly limited season this winter school holidays. Tickets are now on sale.
An uplifting, humorous and visually stunning production, Blueback completes the trilogy of the company's distinctive interpretations of Tim Winton's works, including The Deep and The Bugalugs Bum Thief.
Set against the backdrop of the mythical Longboat Bay, a pristine piece of coastline not unlike many parts of Western Australia, Blueback tells the tale of young Abel Jackson, whose family has lived and worked on the sea for generations.
Growing up with his mother in this remote part of the world, Abel has developed a connection with the ocean, forming a deep respect for its teeming marine life and a lifelong friendship with a giant groper he calls 'Blueback'. When this world is threatened, Abel has to find the courage to stand up for what he believes in.
Regarded as one of Tim Winton's most personal and quintessentially Western Australian stories, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre brings Blueback to life with an underwater menagerie of exquisite puppetry and an extraordinary celebration of the Western Australian coastline.
Blueback is a deeply engaging story about our connection to the environment. It will nourish your heart and the beautiful poetry will resonate with you and your family long after you leave the theatre.
Don't miss this opportunity to see this critically acclaimed production.
The season will commence on Saturday 1 July and run until Saturday 15 July. It is suitable for ages 5 and over and runs for 50 minutes followed by a 10-minute Q&A.
